However, if M51 has a line_7: brightness profile resembling that of M31 as measured by Light et al (1974), line_8: the central surface brightness is 14mB per sqaure arcsec giving a maximum line_9: signal:noise of 20 in 3 hours. Better ratios will be achieved in the emission line_10: lines, permitting variations in shift and width to be studied. The slit should line_11: preferably be oriented along the major axis at p.a.0d, giving the possibility line_12: of studying effects of galactic rotation on the emission lines. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: Ground-based observations are limited to a spatial resolution of 1 arcsec at line_2: best, corresponding to 50 pc, whereas with ST the resolution will be about 10 line_3: times as good. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: Slit needs to be along major axis in position angle 0 degrees to study rotation line_2: curve. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: STARLINK facilities will be used on CAVAD Cluster ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: STARLINK facilities on the CAVAD VAX and SUN cluster. ! question: 13 section: 1 line_1: The FOC long slit facility will be used to study intensities, widths and line_2: wavelengths of emission and absorption lines in the visible with high spatial line_3: resolution through the Seyfert-like nucleus. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: PAGEL fname: BERNARD category: CON inst: NEILS BOHR INSTITUTE addr_1: COPENHAGEN addr_2: DENMARK city: COPENHAGEN country: DENMARK phone: TO BE ADDED telex: TO BE ADDED ! lname: BOKSENBERG fname: ALEC title: PROF. category: PI inst: ROYAL GREENWICH OBSERVATORY addr_1: MADINGLEY ROAD addr_2: CB3 0EZ city: CAMBRIDGE country: UNITED KINGDOM phone: (44)223-374000 telex: 817235 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: NGC5194 name_2: M51 descr_1: EMISSION LINE NUCLEUS IN NEARBY SC GALAXY pos_1: RA=13H 27M 46.327S +/- 0.003S, pos_2: DEC=0.047D 27' 10.25" +/- 4" equinox: 1950 rv_or_z: V=460 acqpr_1: EXT comment_1: MAJOR AXIS ORIENTED AT PA=0 comment_2: DEGREES +/- 2 DEGREES comment_3: POSITION IS GIVEN FROM VLA. comment_4: TOO BRIGHT FOR GASP. fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: SURF(V)=14 +/- 1 fluxnum_2: 2 fluxval_2: SURF(B)=15 +/- 1 ! ! end of fixed targets !
