The time line_4: required for a full GHRS echelle spectral atlas is prohibitive. line_5: However, an intelligently planned survey will provide an enormous line_6: spectroscopic data base for use in elemental abundance analyses and line_7: as a standard of reference for the study of other normal and peculiar line_8: B and A stars. As the atomic data base is progressively improved, line_9: the chi Lupi spectrum will continue to be studied for years to come. line_10: The starting point for the survey is the set of wavelength intervals line_11: observed under proposal 1182. The present observations will line_12: approximately double the size of that wavelength sample. Wavelengths line_13: have been selected to provide data on transitions from the ground or line_14: low excitation states of the dominant stage of ionization of as many line_15: elements as possible. However, it is expected that the selection line_16: of wavelength settings will be refined, based on what is learned line_17: from the observations of proposal 1182. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: LECKRONE fname: DAVID mi: S. inst: NASA, GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: Approximately 6.6 hours of exposure time have been allocated line_2: for post-costar observing to efficiently obtain small science line_3: aperture, echelle observations of chi Lupi in approximately line_4: 9 wavelength intervals, ranging from 1250 to beyond 1650 A. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: See section 2 above ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: Data will be analysed at the RDAF facility at GSFC.
