The investigation will determine the velocities and nature of the line_5: faint luminous regions surrounding these QSOs. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: HUTCHINGS fname: JOHN mi: B. inst: DOMINION ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY country: CANADA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: FOS low dispersion spectra will be obtained, generally using the 2 x 2" - line_2: aperture with bar. Procedure will be to peak up on the nucleus, take short line_3: exposures on the nucleus as a monitor for scattered light, then offset as line_4: specified or occult the nucleus and take the off-nuclear exposures. Exposure line_5: times are estimated from ground-based surface brightness measures and FOS line_6: sensitivity predictions. It is essential to be able to revise exposure times, line_7: if necessary, after SV or on initial observation set in this program. The 2 x line_8: 2" aperture is used principally to get enough flux from the faint fuzz. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: ST high spatial resolution essential to avoid nuclear light contamination and line_2: to achieve physical resolution in the target objects. ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: Need to monitor FOS sensitivity after first object has been observed. Only 6.9 line_2: hours observing time to be used, as far as possible in order of priority. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: DAO VAX and existing software will be used on ST standard data products. ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: All reduction facilities and support. ! question: 13 section: 1 line_1: FOS spectra will be obtained on off-nuclear locations of several QSOs with line_2: existing ground-based imaging. Program will focus on known features of line_3: interest, and interacting companions, to study galaxy composition and dynamics. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: HUTCHINGS fname: JOHN mi: B. title: PROF. category: PI inst: DOMINION ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY addr_1: 5071 W.
