(Other populations in nearby galaxies are dealt with in other parts line_4: of the WF/PC teams's GTO program). Our targets include young associations in line_5: M31 and M33, disk regions in M31 and M33, bulge regions in M31 and M81, and the line_6: general field in IC1613. The fields in M31 lie at stepped distances from the line_7: nucleus out to the vicinity of Baade Field IV. Deep U, V, I frames will be line_8: used to construct color-magnitude and color-color diagrams, and to derive age, line_9: metallicity, reddening, and luminosity functions. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: WESTPHAL fname: JAMES title: PROF. mi: A. inst: CALTECH country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: Stepped exposures with the WFC will be taken using three filters (F336W, line_2: F555W, F785LP) in thirteen fields in very nearby galaxies. Eight of those line_3: fields are in M31 and three in M33. The shortest exposures are designed to line_4: record the brightest member stars (not foreground) without saturation, while line_5: the longest (2100 seconds in some of the fields) will reach magnitude limits line_6: set partly by star image crowding. line_8: Cycle 9: Exposures 22, 23, 28, and 34. line_9: Cycle 9: Exposures 24-27, 29-33,and 35. ! question: 6 section: 1 line_1: Uninterrupted exposures are needed to maximize the S/N. For all exposures line_2: >=1000 sec, we request dark time. This is needed to minimize scattered light. line_3: By dark time we mean that the telescope should be beyond the brightly lit limb line_4: of the Earth in the dark half of the orbit. We do not require that the line_5: telescope actually be within the Earth's shadow. See note on exposure line_6: logsheets. The above guideline of 1000 sec may need r-vision after experience line_7: in orbit. ! question: 13 section: 1 line_1: WFC exposures, both short and long, will be obtained in three broad line_2: passbands (U, V, and I) in young associations in M31 and M33, disk regions in line_3: M33, bulge regions in M31 and M81, and the general field in IC1613. Ages, line_4: metallicities, reddenings, and luminosity functions will be derived. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: GUNN fname: JAMES mi: E. category: ADV inst: PRINCETON UNIVERSITY addr_1: ASTROPHYSICAL SCIENCE addr_2: PEYTON HALL city: PRINCETON state: NJ zip: 08540 country: USA phone: (609) 452-3802 ! lname: FABER fname: SANDRA mi: M. category: ADV inst: UC SANTA CRUZ - LICK OBSERVATORY addr_1: NATURAL SCIENCE II, BLDG. 160 city: SANTA CRUZ state: CA zip: 95064 country: USA phone: (408) 429-2944 ! lname: WESTPHAL fname: JAMES mi: A. title: PROF. category: PI inst: CALTECH addr_1: M/S 170-25 addr_2: DIVISION OF GEOLOGICAL addr_3: & PLANETARY SCIENCES city: PASADENA state: CA zip: 91125 country: USA phone: (818) 356-4900 ! lname: BAUM fname: WILLIAM category: CON inst: LOWELL OBSERVATORY addr_1: PLANETARY RESEARCH CENTER addr_2: 1400 WEST MARS HILL ROAD city: FLAGSTAFF state: AZ zip: 86002 country: USA phone: (602) 774-3358 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 1 name_1: M31-FIELD184A name_2: BAADE 4 descr_1: E, 301, C, 203 pos_1: RA= 0H 34M 49.8S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +39D 44' 12" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: STELLAR ASSOCIATION comment_2: 184 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 2 name_1: M31-FIELD184B descr_1: E, 301, 912 pos_1: RA= 0H 34M 42.4S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +39D 40' 12" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: DISK FIELD NEAR comment_2: ASSOC 184 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 3 name_1: M31-FIELD138A descr_1: E, 301, C, 203 pos_1: RA= 0H 36M 52.2S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +40D 3' 19" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: STELLAR ASSOCIATION comment_2: 138 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 4 name_1: M31-FIELD138B descr_1: E, 301, 912 pos_1: RA= 0H 37M 0.2S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +39D 59' 55" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: DISK FIELD NEAR comment_2: ASSOC 138 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 5 name_1: M31-FIELD81A name_2: BAADE 3 descr_1: E, 301, C, 203 pos_1: RA= 0H 37M 43.1S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +40D 15' 59" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: STELLAR ASSOCIATION comment_2: 81 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 6 name_1: M31-FIELD81B descr_1: E, 301, 912 pos_1: RA= 0H 38M 6.0S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +40D 12' 0.0" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: DISK FIELD NEAR comment_2: ASSOC 81 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 7 name_1: M31-FIELDN206 descr_1: E, 301, C 203 pos_1: RA = 0H 37M 45.9S +/-.1S, pos_2: DEC= +40D 27' 31" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: STELLAR ASSOCIATION comment_2: NGC206 IN M31 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 25.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 8 name_1: M33-FIELD137 descr_1: E, 301, C, 203 pos_1: RA= 1H 30M 26.8S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +30D 37' 54" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: YOUNG CLUSTER IN ARM comment_2: OF M33 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 9 name_1: M33-DISK descr_1: E, 301, 912 pos_1: RA= 1H 31M 43.3S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +30D 31' 43" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: DISK REGION IN M33 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 10 name_1: M33-FIELDN604 descr_1: E, 301, G, 503 pos_1: RA= 1H 31M 43.7S +/- 0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +30D 31' 40" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: H2 REGION IN M33 fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 25.2 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 11 name_1: IC1613 descr_1: E, 306 pos_1: RA= 1H 2M 36.8S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +1D 51' 39" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: DWARF IRREGULAR comment_2: GALAXY fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 12 name_1: M81-BULGE descr_1: E, 301, 913 pos_1: RA= 9H 51M 40.3S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +69D 18' 57" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: BULGE REGION OF comment_2: NEARBY SPIRAL GALAXY fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.8 +/- 0.5 ! targnum: 13 name_1: M31-BULGE descr_1: E, 301, 913 pos_1: RA= 0H 40M 0.3S +/-0.1S, pos_2: DEC= +41D 1' 23" +/-1" equinox: 1950 comment_1: BULGE REGION OF comment_2: NEARBY SPIRAL GALAXY fluxnum_1: 1 fluxval_1: V = 26.2 +/- 0.5 ! ! end of fixed targets !
