The line_6: possibility of variations from pixel to pixel should be reduced by taking three line_7: exposures of each star field with an offset of a few pixels in the image line_8: location at each pointing. Each target field should be observed approximately line_9: every three months during the first year, and at maximum and minimum parallax line_10: positions during the following year. line_12: The observations during the guaranteed time will be the first of a series of line_13: observations of these stars to be taken over the lifetime of the Space line_14: Telescope. In combinations with ground-based observations, improvements to the line_15: parallaxes and proper motions will be investigated. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: WESTPHAL fname: JAMES title: PROF. mi: A. inst: CALTECH country: USA ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: Each target field should have three exposures with an offset of a few pixels in line_2: the image location at each pointing. However, if the ST line_2: cannot be pointed with sufficient accuracy to place reliably the specified line_3: target star on the "Baum" spot, then real-time observations will be required line_4: for those stars that use the "Baum" spot, until the star can reliably be placed line_5: on the spot. ! question: 13 section: 1 line_1: Astrometric observations of the candidate stars with respect to star fields are line_2: to be made over a period of years to detect the periodic motion of the stars line_3: due to the influence of a planet moving around the star. These observations line_4: will be used to determine improved parallaxes and proper motions and to line_5: investigate short or long period motions. The observations should be the first line_6: in a series of observations over the lifetime of the Space Telescope and the line_7: list of target stars may be revised during that time. The stars are Barnards line_8: Star, Ross 248, VB10, L726-8, Ross 154, LFT 544, Kruger 50B, GRB 348, L 725-32 line_9: and VB8. ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: SEIDELMANN fname: P. mi: K. category: CON inst: US NAVAL OBSERVATORY addr_1: NAUTICAL ALMANAC OFFICE city: WASHINGTON state: DC zip: 20390 country: USA phone: (202) 653-1545 ! lname: GUNN fname: JAMES mi: E. category: CON inst: PRINCETON UNIVERSITY addr_1: ASTROPHYSICAL SCIENCE addr_2: PEYTON HALL city: PRINCETON state: NJ zip: 08540 country: USA phone: (609) 452-3802 ! lname: WESTPHAL fname: JAMES mi: A. title: PROF. category: PI inst: CALTECH addr_1: DIVISION OF GEOLOGICAL addr_2: & PLANETARY SCIENCES city: PASADENA state: CA zip: 91125 country: USA phone: (818) 356-4900 ! lname: FABER fname: SANDRA mi: M. category: CON inst: UC SANTA CRUZ - LICK OBSERVATORY addr_1: NATURAL SCIENCE II, BLDG. 160 city: SANTA CRUZ state: CA zip: 95064 country: USA phone: (408) 429-2944 ! ! end of general_form_address records fixed_targets: targnum: 3 name_1: VB10 name_2: WOLF-1055B descr_1: STAR pos_1: RA = 19H 14M 30.77S +/- 0.3S, pos_2: DEC = +05D 04' 04.8" +/- 5" equinox: 1950.0 ! ! end of fixed targets !
