abstract:

    line_1:        Observations with IUE of the recent eclipse of Epsilon Aur by its enigmatic
    line_2:        secondary showed that the source of the ultraviolet flux, Lambda </~ 1400 A,
    line_3:        was not eclipsed. This flux is probably provided by a hot star embedded
    line_4:        within the large dusty disk around the secondary. A FOS spectrum will be
    line_5:        obtained to provide the first detailed look at the secondary.

    line_1:        Epsilon Aurigae's secondary most probably consists of a large, dusty disk that
    line_2:        almost completely obscures the central star or a pair of stars. Infrated
    line_3:        emission by the disk has now been detcted in the infrared from the ground and
    line_4:        by IRAS. The stellar embedded source is not directly observable from the
    line_5:        ground. IUE observations showed that for Lambda <-= 1400 A the source of the
    line_6:        ultraviolet radiation was not eclipsed and may come from the secondary's
    line_7:        stellar source.The larger aperture and higher senitivity of HST is needed to
    line_8:        classify the ultraviolet spectrum of Epsilon Aur and to identify the source of
    line_9:        the radiation.
