FOS Pre-COSTAR Theoretical Line Spread Functions (LSFs)

The file fos_lsfs.ps [Postscript, 350 Kbytes] contains plots of theoretical pre-COSTAR FOS line spread functions (LSFs) computed from TIM PSF models. We also provide a listing of the available FOS LSF reference files [ASCII, 12 Kbytes]. The pre-COSTAR LSFs are given for each detector and aperture combination, at five wavelengths. The wavelengths for FOS/BL are 1400, 2000, 2800, 4000, and 5000 Angstroms, while for FOS/RD they are 2000, 2800, 4000, 5600, and 7400 Angstroms. These correspond approximately to the effective central wavelengths for the G130H (blue only), G190H, G270H, G400H, G570H, and G780H (red only) gratings, respectively. The LSFS are computed for a point source that is perfectly centered in the aperture, normalized to a peak throughput of 1.0, and are plotted as a function of both number of diodes and microns in X from aperture center. A complete discussion of these LSF models is provided in FOS ISR 104.
