Scientific Justification. This proposal specifies the observations which should be scheduled to test the ability of the system to plan and schedule slews, FHST updates and guide star acquisitions. It is required in order to ensure that the existing and future software and/or command instructions are correct. THIS PROPOSAL IS A TEST PROPOSAL AND SHOULD NOT BE EXECUTED AGAINST ANY HARDWARE WHICH IS CRITICAL TO THE NORMAL OPERATIONS OF HST. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. The proposal makes use of targets within 35 degrees of the ecliptic poles to ensure that they never enter the solar exclusion zone. These targets have the additional favorable characteristic that Earth occultations are minimized. The observations are broken into sections to facilitate testing individual capabilities independently of one another. The structure is: lines 1xx - GYRO acquisitions and Slews; lines 2xx - Coarse and fine lock pair acquisitions; lines 3xx - Single star acquisitions; lines 4xx - SAM manuevers; lines 5xx - FGS Reacquisitions; lines 6xx - Spatial Scan test; lines 7xx - Proper Motion Test; The transformation should result in separate scheduling units for each of these sections. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. The acquisition scenarios listed in the comments of the exposure lines should be used for each of the exposures. This may require special SQL to obtain the proper scenario. If the exposure logsheet lines specify a unique number of guide stars for that line, then the operations procedure which selects guide stars must be modified to select that number of stars. Each test must be implemented as a separate unit for purposes of scheduling.
