Abstract Low resolution of the NUV prism at visible wavelengths has made wavelength and photometric calibrations of this portion of the spectral region difficult. Therefore, a red source with many strong emission lines from 3500-6700 Angstroms will be imaged with the FOC NUVOP to provide wavelength calibrations beyond 4000 Angstroms. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ Use of the 256x1024 format will require an INT ACQ to place the target at the proper position to insure that the entire NUV spectra will land on the detector. A short image, taken with the F550M+F2ND filters, will provide the zero-point position for the wavelength calibration of the longer NUVOP+F195W image. Real Time Justification ----------------------- Calibration Justification ------------------------- The calibration of the FOC NUVOP has so far been based strictly on blue objects which provide very little flux and very few emission lines in the red to use for calibration beyond 4000 Angstroms. This program will fill in that gap in the calibration, enabling more robust science use of the NUV prism with red targets.
