Abstract This proposal monitors the stability of the FOS wavelength scale and location of spectra. For the wavelength calibration, all standard gratings are used with the 0.3"circle and either the 0.1" or 0.25" paired apertures. The WAVECAL lamp has a fairly constant output, so that these data are a secondary monitor of any changes in the FOS internal sensitivity. For the y-base calibration we will obtain aperture maps to determine the location of spectra and the coarse aperture location for the 0.3" aperture for all grating settings. We will then measure the location of spectra for all the remaining science apertures using only the G190H or G400H gratings. Since we know that the FOS mechanisms are reasonably well aligned, the small number of observations should suffice and the difference in the location of the spectra should be solely due to the single versus the paired apertures. The program can be scheduled as an interleaver observation and should be repeated every month for a total of 12 times. It is necessary to conduct this test many times during the cycle since we know from previous cycles that the location of the spectra has changed with time. Total spacecraft time is 1 orbit of prime time and 96 orbits of NON-PRIME time. VISIT REQUIREMENT DISCUSSED WITH PC WHO WILL VERIFY TIMING LINKS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Observations Description ------------------------ For the location of spectra we will obtain data on the internal Pt-Ne lamps and TALEDs. Data will be obtained through the 0.3" apertures. The observations will map the face of the photocathode using 24 y- steps and 1 x-step. The program is to be performed every month to track the location of the spectra on the photocathode. For the int- ernal wavelength calibration, measurements of the Pt -Ne lamp will be obtained. The observation, taken through the smallest square (0.1-PAIR) and circular (0.3) apertures, will be used to determine accurate wave- length scales for all disperser/detector combinations. These observ- ations should be repeated throughout the mission to check for stabil- ity. All observations in this program can be scheduled in parallel or as internals Observations have been structured into groups no longer than approximately 25 minutes to facilitate scheduling as interleavers in occultation.
