In particular, the analysis of the UV polarized radiation is important to test the validity of the unification model of powerful radio-loud AGN and to disentangle the different components (stellar and non-stellar radiation). Despite the effort in the observation of the UV components in high redshift radio galaxies, their nature at low redshift has been poorly investigated. We propose to do FOS UV spectropolarimetry of three powerful radio galaxies with z~0.1-0.2. Cycle 6 provides the last opportunity to obtain this kind of astrophysical information. Our main scientific aims are to test the validity of the Unified Model of powerful radio-loud AGN and to analyse the continuum and emission line polarizations in order to understand the origin of the scattered radiation and the nature of the scattering particles. We will also make use of the total flux spectra (continuum and lines) in order to measure the relative importance of the various radiative components which contribute to the UV emission (stars, scattered radiation, non-thermal unpolarized radiation). Our observations will also allow us to compare the spectral and polarization properties of low and high redshift powerful radio galaxies in the same UV rest-frame spectral range. Questions ! Free format text (please update) Observing_Description: Our three galaxies were already observed with FOC+F320W in imaging polarimetry (GO 3790 and 4359; P.I. Antonucci). The data have been reduced and provided broad- band fluxes and polarizations at 3200 Angstrom. The acquisition of the target will be made in ACQ/PEAK mode with FOS/RD and with a pointing accuracy of 0.2 arcsec (sequence A+B1+C1). The change of configuration from FOS/RD to FOS/BL will be made during the occultation. For 3C321 and 3C327, in order to have a final sigma_P ~1.3\% per bin, we need SNR=12 per diode and spectral binning of 60 diodes (~120 Angstrom). For 3C234, because of its relative higher brightness, we request SNR=20 per diode, providing sigma_P ~1.0\% in bins of 40 diodes (~80 Angstrom). The total integration time required for one target is t_total =t * 4, where t is estimated according to the prescriptions of the FOS Handbook Version 6.0. A complete polarization sequence (4 polarizer angles) will be completed in one orbit and repeated in the following orbits until the total required integration time is reached.
