Abstract Zeta Oph is one of the best studied lines of sight for interstellar absorption lines. We have demonstrated with previous GHRS data that S/N > 400 can be achieved, allowing lines with equivalent widths less than 1 milli-Angstrom to be detected and measured. The structure of these observations is quite simple, and is based on proven successful strategies. Lines 10-30 define a target search with an RTB LSA exposure, followed by an LSA peakup, and finally an SSA RTB peakup. No image mode maps are required. Lines 100-130 define three grating setups, all using medium resolution modes, a substep pattern with four samples per diode width, four point comb addition, and standard four position fp-split. The exposure times will allow a total of 250000 counts per diode in each spectral bin when all subexposures are combined. The use of 8 subexposures ensures that no overflows will occur. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. There are no special requirements. Description of previous HST work. We used Zeta Oph as a standard star during SV to calibrate scattered light, detector granularity and linearity.
