Abstract This WF/PC GTO program covers a small group of targets all but one of which are related to the birth and death of stars. These include the Eta Carina, Cygnus Loop, and a bipolar outflow source. In each case high spatial and S/N imaging will be conducted to better understand the morphology and motions in these unusual objects. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. GENERAL FORM Proposal 5779 PI: Prof. James A. Proposers: Proposers Institution Country ESA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ James A. Westphal CALTECH USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. HH7-11 will be observed in F656N, F673N, and F850LP, each for 2x2000s to allow CR removal. Four orientations of the HH7-11 field are given, of which only one will be SELECTed, dependent upon availability of guide stars. The Eta Car region will be observed in F658N with a variety of exposure times for increased dynamic range. A PSF will be taken concurrently, then another set of Eta Car pictures will be taken roughly 730 days after the first set. One of three potential pointings will be selected, dependent upon the availability of guide stars. Two regions in NGC 6995 (A and B) will be observed in F502N, F656N, and F673N, each for 2x2000s to allow CR removal. Two separate points for region B (B1 and B2) are given, with only one SELECTed, dependent upon guide star availability. In all cases, the first orientation with guide stars available should be used. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Second epoch of ETA-CAR observations (in the ECARSEQ sequence) are taken roughly two years after the first in Cycle 4. If object must be split off to next proposal/cycle, the same positioning and orientation of the object is required and must be carried over. If so, a REQ UPDATE is needed for insertion of the correct ORIENT from the first observation and the same guide stars need to be specified. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13. Photometric and polarimetric imaging with the PC of Eta Car for morphology and first epoch plates will be taken for high resolution motion studies. Deep F675W pictures of SS433 to study the ejecta. Photometric and polarimetric imaging of the bipolar outflow source HH 7-11 with filters F656N, F673N, and F850LP will be taken for morphologic and motion studies. NGC6995 will be studied with F502N, F656N, F673N. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11. Address Information Name: JAMES A.
