Description of proposed observations. This is a re-write of the orginal test which was executed as proposal 1420. The changes include the addition of more reference stars and the deletion of FGS1 and all use of PUPIL. In addition, the roll angles have been changed, to 0,+180 for the positions at the PICKLE's "FOOTBALL" corners, and to 0,+90,+180,+270 for the pickle center. As proposed, this is an 8 orbit test. A re-test is needed because the old test lacked sufficient refernence stars and because there exists no reliable OFAD calibration for Dec. 1991, when orginal test was executed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. For full POS-mode accuracy during FGS astrometry observations lateral color effects will need to be determined and then applied. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Because of the significant telescope "rolls", the target field is located within 10 degrees of the anti-solar direction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. All lateral color observations are to be made contiguously in time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. ADRS in SDAS will be used to examine the observations across the FGS-FOV. Differences (direct-reverse) will be analysed as field data. Vector plots, covariance matrices and "errors" will produced. Systematic differences will be entered into the PDB to allow correction for lateral color in FGS astrometric observations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Additional comments or special requests. Because of the need significant telescope "rolls", the asterism is located within 10 degrees of the anti-solar direction. For this asterism, the observations can only be performed within several days of Christmas. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10. Resources to be supplied by investigator's institution(s). ADRS will be available in Austin. Some AST personnel will beavailable at STScI or GSFC to aid in the collection and analysis of the data. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13.
