Abstract This proposal defines a series of observations that will reestablish the sensitivity calibration of the GHRS Echelle B spectroscopic mode during cycle 4. It makes use of the UV standard star Mu Columbae, with target acquisitions performed using mirror A2. The OSCAN mode is used to scan orders 18-31 at three carrousel positions that straddle the peak of the blaze function, with the star in the LSA. Description of proposed observations. The star will be acquired with Mirror A2, using an RTB search a double locate, and two image mode maps. With the target well centered in the LSA a series of OSCAN exposures will be made to record orders 18-31 at three carrousel positions. These were selected to straddle the peak of the blaze function which is near m*lambda=56200. A substep pattern with four samples per diode width, and two background bins is used. After completion of the LSA exposures an RTB peakup will center the target in the SSA. An OSCAN sequence will measure the cont rates near the center of the blaze. Exposure times are short as the spectra will be binned into 5 A pieces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The primary goal is to compare the observed count rates with the tabulated standard fluxes to derive the Echelle sensitivity function. This will be used to help plan exposure times for future observations, and to reduce raw data. Better determination of the peak of the blaze function for Echelle B should also be possible. Comparison of the throughputs for the LSA and SSA will be made.
