Scientific Justification. While, the sensitivity of the GHRS is likely to change slowly with time, the installation of COSTAR represents a major perturbation to the instrument. The goal is to obtain a signal -to-noise of about 30. The same star is used for all gratings to allow easy intercomparison and cross calibration. Separate acquisitions for groups of related exposures should allow each to be an independent scheduling unit.
