Abstract As a first priority, we intend to determine the unpolarized transmission coefficients to a relative accuracy of 0.3% in the U band using an STScI standard extended unpolarized source. As a second priority, we intend to determine the effective polarimeter position angle offset with respect to the HST axes to an accuracy of 3 degrees, using an STScI standard extended polarized source. The values of the polarized transmission coefficients will also be be determined to an accuracy of 3%, although it is not expected that these coefficients will change significantly from their pre-launch values. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Description of proposed observations. These observations are needed to determine the unpolarized transmission coefficients in orbit to a relative accuracy of 0.3%. An STScI standard extended unpolarized (<0.15%) source (NGC5272) will be observed throught the polarizers in the v band (F410M). This requires 4x10 minute exposures. The effective polarimeter position angle offset and polarized transmission coefficients will be determined to a relative accuracy of 3% by observing an STScI standard polarized source (LK-HA-233) through the polarizers in the B band (F430W). This requires 4x25 minute exposures, and the data will be binned in 0.3"x0.3" apertures to give the required S/N. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. The orientation of the spacecraft must be the same for the specified exposures to enable overlay of the 3 polarized images. For the observations of NGC5272, all four images must be with the same spacecraft orientation in order to determine the shifts introduced by the polarizers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12.
