At line_3: redshifts z > 2, these massive galaxies are the best observational examples of line_4: ongoing galaxy formation at early epochs. Only HST can probe the complex line_5: morphology of these galaxies. Recent surveys have discovered a large number line_6: of these distant galaxies and the time is ripe for a systematic study. It will line_7: be expensive, but these distant galaxies are virtually the only optically line_8: extended objects at high redshift for HST to study. We propose WFPC2 line_9: observations of a sample of 9 galaxies, with longer integrations for 3 of the line_10: best objects. For each galaxy we propose one narrow band image centered on line_11: redshifted Lyman alpha, and two color continuum images taken with the polarizer line_12: parallel and perpenducular to the radio axis.
