Abstract This proposal defines observations to be carried out in the cycle 4 calibration program to verify use of GHRS mirror N1 for target acquisition, and to reestablish the sensitivity calibration for low resolution grating G140L. We use the UV standard star BD+28d4211, perform target acquisitions with mirror N1, and record the spectra with grating G140L at central wavelengths of 1200, 1400, 1600 and 1800 A. The exposure times are long enough to provide approximately 1000 cts per diode in each of four spectral bins at most wavelengths. Description of proposed observations. The observations are a straightforward use of N1 and G140L lines 100,110 rtb search and lsa peakup (I expect roughly 10000 cts/sec for this target and N1) lines 120,130 image mode maps to confirm centering and measure 2d image shape with N1 with costar in place. lines 140-170 simple accums at 4 central wavelengths fluxes from Bohlin's UV standards documents lsa sensitivities from GHRS instrument handbook version 4.0 line 200 ssa rtb peakup lines 210-240 same 4 accum spectra with star in ssa ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. This proposal should be scheduled for execution after the carrousel commanding verification test has been run and analyzed. Parameters for the target acquisition data bases will need to be updated before this test will run. Execute after successful execution of proposal 5277 and AFTER installation/alignment of the COSTAR/GHRS mirror. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Deflection calibrations from the acquisitions will be analyzed to refine the onboard target acquisition data bases. Target acquisition fluxes will be checked for N1 sensitivity. LSA and SSA sensitivity curves will be derived from measured count rates and tabulated UV fluxes for this star. This proposal does not use fp- splits, or obtain very high S/N, so details of granularity and blemishes will not be well measured. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
