Abstract The following activities will take place during this proposal. 1. Perform an INT ACQ and take an FOC image at the best tilt position from proposal 4931 (FOC coarse aperture location). 2. Based on the FOC image, evaluate the coma and determine the X and Y tilt adjustments that should remove the coma 3. Uplink the X tilt adjustment that will remove about 100" of coma using a real-time contact. 4. Take an FOC image and check that the coma is indeed reduced. 5. Uplink the Y tilt adjustment that will remove about 100" of coma using a real-time contact. 6. Take an FOC image and check that the coma is indeed reduced. 7. Uplink and X and Y tilt adjustments that would remove all the remaining coma using a real time contact. 8. Scientific Justification. This activity will satisfy the following COSTAR SMOV Requirements: 1. Remove most of the coma so that the FOC fine alignment tilt and coarse focus proposals can be executed. 2. Update FOC tilt position to new optimum values. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. An FOC acquisition image will be taken with the DOB and FOC tilt mechanisms at the initial position, as used in the FOC F96/FGS Coarse Alignment test. A SIP will be issued by OSS to move the target star to the center of the field. A 512X512 image will be taken to evaluate the amount of coma and calculate the corrections needed to remove the coma. OSS will then be used to adjust the FOC M1 tilt to remove approximately 100" of X coma using a real-time contact. A second FOC image will be used to verify that the tilt adjustment was applied in the correct direction. Using these data, the tilt adjustment needed to remove all of the rest of the coma will be calculated, and OSS will uplink this adjustment using a real-time contact. Another FOC image will then be taken to check that all of the coma has indeed been removed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Prerequisites: 1. FOC-F96-CAL-01 FOC F96/FGS Coarse Alignment (proposal #4931) Real-time Requirements: 1. R/T contact required at start of observations to move FOC mechanisms to new positions. 2. R/T command and telemetry links are required by the OSS for the interactive target acquisition. 3. R/T telemetry links are required for subsequent observations to get the data downlinked for analysis. Special Scheduling: 1. Lines 7, 9, and 11 should use the same guide stars as line 4. 1. Lines 107, 109, and 111 should use the same guide stars as line 104. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Engineering data will be reduced using the ESS and the COSTAR data analysis system to generate standard sorts and plots. Sorts and plots will be used to: 1. Verify COSTAR movements and performance 2. Verify COSTAR electrical performance Science data will be analyzed using the COSTAR/FOC data analysis system. The following analysis will be performed: 1. Calculate the amount of coma for each image using direct comparison with simulations. 2. Run phase retrieval on the to determine the optical aberrations (Zernike coefficients). 3.
