Abstract The Cycle 2 internal/external wavelength calibration for grating G130H was not adequate due to lack of lines in the external source spectrum. A new source with a strong G130H emission line spectrum is observed in this region. Both the original Cycle 2 source and the new source are also observed with G190H on both sides to insure 1.) the new source is tied to the original system, and 2.) no instrumental change has occurred since the Cycle 2 observa- tions. This test will be performed using the 0.3" aperture and two external sources. Derived offsets can be applied to the polynomial fit of pixel number versus wavelength determined from the lines in the internal Pt/Cr-Ne lamp. Description of proposed observations. In this test, we will obtain spectra of external and internal wavelength calibration sources, and compare the resulting channel versus wavelength relationships to search for any offset between the two. The external objects, as well as the internal Pt-Ne lamp, will be observed through one aperture. The Cycle 2 program to determine these offsets did not obtain sufficient S/N for G130H. The Cycle 3 program will rectify this via the use of a second emission line source which will be observed with sufficient BLUE and RED spectral elements and re-observation of the Cycle 2 target with one BLUE and 2 RED spectral elements in order to remove any systematic errors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. In the time between the individual exposure pieces, the FOS filter grating wheel MUST NOT be moved. This includes the homing of the instrument that would occur if a non-FOS observation is inserted in the time between the pieces. This restriction also applies to the internal WAVE observations - the filter grating wheel MUST NOT be moved between the external and internal observations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. We require an internal Pt/Cr-Ne lamp observations immediately following each external observation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction and analysis will be performed at the STScI.
