Abstract We will obtain UV spectra of OB supergiant stars in M33 AND M31 to study stellar wind phenomena (resonance line profiles and velocities, stellar effective temperatures). We will also derive approximate UV extinction curves for these galaxies. FOS high dispersion spectra will be taken in the range Lambda-Lambda 1100-3000, to derive line profiles and flux distributions, of several selected OB stars. The stars are selected on the basis of ground-based spectroscopy and in some cases, low dispersion IUE spectra. Parallel WFC images with the UV grating G200L are requested in all fields. Not more than 5 targets to be scheduled. Choice to be made near to observing time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Only ST can obtain UV spectra with the desired resolution and S/N. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Spectra will be analysed using DAO and KPNO facilities. Stellar effective temperatures, fluxes and extinction will be estimated by comparison with model atmospheres, line profiles and velocities will be compared with galactic and MC counterparts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
