Abstract R136 is the bright central object of the 30 Doradus nebula. HST images with WFPC and FOC have resolved it into a tight cluster of several dozen stars, whose brightness and colors imply hot, massive, early type stars. This proposals defines GHRS UV spectra of the four brightest members. It is to be performed during cycle 4, with COSTAR in place, and assuming that side 1 of the GHRS is reactivated. Grating G140L will be used to record 1200 - 1760 A with a S/N=30 in the continuum. Onboard acq with mirror N1 with return to brightest point. Peakup and image of LSA with N1. Peakup in SSA using return to brightest. Spectra at two central wavelengths, 1350 and 1620. The spectra will be studied in terms of gross spectral morphologhy, for the purposes of classification. Stellar wind diagnostics such as terminal velocities and mass loss rates will be derived from comparison of line profiles with model predictions and experience with similar stars.
