Abstract This proposal will be used to take a dark exposure and a CAL lamp exposure to verify the science data interfaces and the proper functioning of the FOS. This must be preceeded by verification that the FOS ION gauge pressure reading is less than 1E-5 Torr. Prior to the resumption of normal science activities with the FOS it is necessary to verify that the electronic and hardware within the instrument still function correctly. This verification is best done by taking a short series of internal images and comparing them to the FOS engineer's expectations from pre- servicing mission operations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Two internal exposures will be taken with the FOS/Red detector. The dark image will determine if the detector electronics worked correctly and the WAVE exposure will verify that the FOS optical path is still intact. As these images will include the first use of the FOS high voltage after the shuttle portion of the servicing mission, the data will be taken with real-time telemetry to ensure that problems are detected immediately. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Both exposures require real-time telemetry throughout the observation to ensure that problems are detected and resolved quickly. The order of the observations is important as the DARK image verifies a subset of the functions that are verified by the WAVE image. Prerequisites: The FOS must have successfully transitioned into the HOLD configuration and the FOS internal pressure must have been below 1E-5 torr for a minimum of 12 hours as defined by the pressure monitoring activity (proposal 4762) prior to the execution of this proposal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11.
