Scientific Justification. The time allocated will provide the specific vehicle configuration and dedicated ScT for installation and regression testing of Version 8.3 FS modifications. The new flight code once installed and validated via on-orbit regression test, will provide new capability. The specific HST configuration for installation of this flight code is needed to configure trhe vehicle, reduce the CPU processing during installation and perform regression test. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. INSTALLATION Establish and verify initial S/C configuration. Load flight code changes, dump and verify, and install. Vehicle attitude: RA 261D, DEC 32D vehicle configuration: DF 224 8.1.2 NSSC1 4.0.A and PDB 29.A must be the configuratin prior to installation of DF 224 8.3. The HST shall be in normal mode using the gyros for attitude reference. 4 Kbps "AN" format should be active, with the engineering recorder activities performed by generic scheduling by PASS. The following FSW processing must be disabled prior to installation: 1) FGS acquistion, ATTITUDE Maps/updates, Command Packets 33-47 Disabled; 2) FHST processing should be inactive, command packets 31 & 32. SSAF Comcon requests should be included in the SMS of 15 to 20 minutes duration each for a total of 2 per orbit. A full DF 224 memory Dump will follow installation. All eng data will be recovered either in R/T or via the ETR. Time Requirement: 2 orbits dedicated REGRESSION TEST The regression test activities are defined to be the minimum activities required to assess the vehicle H&S. The majority of the regression test items are autonomously performed by the DF 224 FSW as a result of vehicle configuration. The activities have been defined and success/fail criteria established. Specific activities that are to be scheduled via the SMS are the following seq 1) CT Observation that includes a crossover of an occultation boundary; 2) FL Acq that includes a cross over of an occultation boundary. 3) FL Reacq that also includes a crossover of an occultation boundary. 4) Type 2 Slew to the +V3 sunpoint attitude. 5) FL Obs w/ occult boundary crossover 6) FL Reacq... 7) FL Reacq Vehicle attitude: +V3 Sunpoint RA 8D DEC 25D Vehicle configuration: 4 Kbps AN format should be active with the ETR activities performed by PASS. During this period Operations will be switching between 4K AN, and 32K FN and PN. SSAF comcons will be requested 2 per orbit 15-20 mins each in SMS. All eng data will be recorded in R/T or on ETR. Time Required: 6 Orbits CONTIGENCY REMOVAL Time Required: 2 Orbits ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Due to the complexity of this DF-224 FS installation, dedicated ScT is needed to reduce the CPU processing and prevent unknown anomalous FSW operation, possibly causing entry into safemode. Previously, serendipitous installations of FSW code have proved to be difficult when specific vehicle configurations are desired. Project Office, Code 440 has therefore directed that all future FSW installations requiring specific vehicle configurations be submitted through the proposal system.
