Abstract This proposal is for repeat observations for the Cycle 1 program 2570. FOS observations were made incorrectly for this program, as described in HOPR no. 55, and we were authorized to submit up to 4.33 spacecraft hours of replacement time. We were moreover authorized to change the FOS time to imaging time for additional investigation of 0950+139, which is the central star of the planetary nebula EGB 6. We will use the WF/PC with V and I filters, in order to determine the colors of the close (0".18) companion discovered with the FOC images already obtained in this program. In addition, we will obtain WF/PC grism images in order to determine whether, as we suspect, this faint companion of the central star is an emission-line source. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. (See original proposal for Scientific Justification) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Short description of the observations. There are two distinct kinds of observations, both designed to elucidate the nature of the close (0".18) companion of 0950+139. We will obtain V and I images with the PC, in order to determine the V-I color of the companion, which we suspect may be an M dwarf that we know is present somewhere in the system from ground-based IR photometry. We will also obtain PC esposures through two grisms, in order to obtain spatially resolved low-dispersion spectra; here the purpose is to localize the source of the strong forbidden emission lines that ground-based spectra show. Again, we suspect that the lines arise from the faint companion, but the spatially resolved spectra are required to confirm this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. (See original proposal) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. (See original proposal) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. The grism observations require a specific spacecraft roll angle, in order that the grism dispersion be perpendicular (within +/- 25 degrees) to the line joining the two stars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. (See original proposal) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
