Take G160L spectra through the 4.3 and 0.3 apertures at each scan point, after peaking up through the 0.3. Scientific Justification. This activity will satisfy the following COSTAR SMOV Requirements: 1. Perform FOS fine tilt scan. Take 0.3 and 4.3 spectra at 9 locations in a 3 x 3 grid. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. A Binary Search on-board acquisition will be performed to center the target in the 4.3 arcsec aperture. A deep ACQ image will then be obtained. The FOS M1 mirror will then be moved to each of the 9 scan points, peakups with spectra being taken at each point. Each data sequence will consist of the following: 1. Peakup in 0.3 with G160L 2. Image mode spectra with G160L in 0.3 and 4.3, with 3 ysteps The scan grid is shown below. Each grid point is labeled with an x and y coordinate (x,y) followed by the number order (#) of the tilt scan X(x,y)-#. The distance between points is 42 arcsec. Description of special scheduling requirements. Prerequisites: 1. COSTAR/FOS Coarse Alignment (4746). Real-time Requirements: realtime uplink required at start of observations to set COSTAR FOS mechanisms to best position. The SEQ 100-219 within 72H was removed to decrease TRANS run time. SPSS should manually create this link. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Engineering data will be reduced using the ESS and the COSTAR data analysis system to generate standard sorts and plots. Sorts and plots will be used to: 1. Verify FOS M1 tilt movements and performance 2. Verify COSTAR electrical performance Science data will be analyzed using the COSTAR/FOS data analysis system. The following analysis will be performed: 1. Calculate the centroid and encircled energy in the image. 2. Calculate the ratio of the 0.3 aper to 4.3 aper flux for each scan point. Plot the results vs. X-tilt and Y-tilt. 3. Use the results of steps 1 and 2 and the COSTAR opto-mechanical model to determine new positions for the X, and Y Tilt mechanisms.
