Scientific Justification. This activity will satisfy the following COSTAR SMOV Requirements: 1. Acquire GHRS image data for use in refining the COSTAR/GHRS tilt and focus alignments. 2. Determine new GHRS tilt and focus settings. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. A 5x5 N2 on-board acquisition will be performed to center the target in the LSA. Return to brightest point will be used. An ACQ/PEAKUP will be used to refine the centering. Next a LSA image will be taken for use in determining new GHRS tilt and focus settings. These observations will be repeated every 12 hours for a total of 6 times. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Prerequisites: 1. GHRS-CAL-01 GHRS/FGS Coarse Alignment (prop 4891) Real-time Requirements: Uplink opportunities for the derived COSTAR GHRS mechanism positions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Science data will be analyzed using the COSTAR/GHRS data analysis system. The following analysis will be performed: 1. Calculate the centroid and encircled energy for the image, and generate contour plots. 2. Analyze the image shape and encircled energy to determine the amount of coma and the focus quality. 3. Use the results of step 2 and the COSTAR opto-mechanical model to determine new positions for GHRS focus, X tilt, and Y Tilt mechanisms.
