Abstract SV-calibrated combinations of detector, disperser, and waveplate that are now likely to be used for polarimetry will be re-measured. Y-bases and wavelength scales for these combinations will be re-calibrated. Further, with the implementation of the onboard GIM correction, red side polarimetry is feasible. Scientific Justification. The calibrations are needed to maintain the level of calibration achieved at the end of SV. Additional redside configurations are also calibrated: G190H and G270H with the B waveplate and G400H with the A waveplate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Measurements of the internal Pt-Ne lamps will be used to locate the two oppositely polarized spectra that occur with the polarimeter. The positions of the split spectra will be compared to those of spectra taken without the polarimeter. The data will be used to determine a wavelength scale for the most commonly used modes of the polarimeter. Standard star BD+28 4211 will be observed to provide flat field and IVS calibration for RED side polarimetry AFTER onboard GIM correction is implemented. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Not applicable ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Note that it is required that ALL of these observations be performed AFTER the onboard GIM correction algorithm is in place. Note that for the y-base maps with the polarizer (sequences P-MAPB and P-MAPR), the map is normally centered on the y-base for the lower of the two polarization spectra. We have therefore broken the maps into two segments, one to be centered on the lower spectrum, and one to be centered on the upper. The lower will use the default Y value, while the upper should be +750 Y-units from the lower. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. Polarimetric observations need to be taken as a single sequence of observations. Changes in background, position angle of the spacecraft, and other variables can all adversely affect the results. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction and analysis will be performed at the ST ScI. This program is a calibration, so the resulting data will need to be added to the PODPS pipeline. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11.
