Scientific Justification. This is the WFPC 2 Fine Alignment and Focus ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Description: Images of an unresolved CVZ source in each camera in turn with mV 2 -3 and B-V near 0. chosen so that exposures typically take 1 second. This represents a compromise between jitter and shutter image problems. Filters F502N, F953N and F170W are used. Stellar images are exposed to at least 1000 electrons/pixel. Images are taken with the OTA secondary mirror moved to four focus settings two at either side of the current setting, so that the images are 60 and 30 WF pixels in diameter. These focus settings correspond to OTA secondary mirror moves of (-360,-180, 180,360) microns. All exposures are taken in coarse track. All camera and filter combinations are done at once in order to minimize SM movements. Single chip readout is acceptable. We also perform a focus sweep (identical to proposal number 4270) on a crowded field with filter F555W as a check on the relative camera focus settings. During this portion of the test as in 4270, telemetry format must be T or A in order to obtain the forward light shield temperature. The total of five large OTA mirror moves done by PSTOL. Final OTA SM, pickoff and AFM positions uplinked by PSTOL. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Prerequisites: 1) WFPC2 AFM Alignment complete (WFII-ALI-04, proposal 4441). 2) WFPC2 Decontamination and KSpot check (WFII-04, proposal 4711). 3) TEC power should be on (WFII-06, proposal 4721). Duration: About 6 orbits + 1 week think time before final mirror movements. Sequence of SUs: Only one of SUs 1-7 (lines 101-107) will be executed. This may be executed before or after SU 8 (lines 800- 807), but there still needs to be at least a week after both SUs are done before SU 9 (line 999) can be executed. (The link between SU 9 and SU 8 is in the proposal but a link to the SELECT set was not possible to do in the proposal.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Results: Final positions for all optical elements. The final small SM adjustment from the position set in ALI-02 (proposal 4333) should be corrected by an immediate compensating move in the COSTAR. Comments: Phase retrieval will be run on all the images, with software to provide required actuator movements.
