Abstract This proposal defines a baseline sensitivity measurement progra for the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph. It uses a UV standard star, BD+28d4211, to obtain medium resolution spectra through the G160M, G200M and G270M gratings. These data are to be obtained after the servicing mission is complete and before COSTAR optical bench deployment. Scientific Justification. These data are obtained to provide a baseline of GHRS sensitivity post-servicing but pre-COSTAR deployment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Lines 100-113 obtain GHRS LSA and SSA spectra using the preferred standard star BD+28D4211. In the event that BD+28 is not available (in SAZ from late January through March), lines 400-413 obtain the same data using another standard star BD+75D325. These lines should only be used if BD+28 cannot be observed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. PREREQUISITES: Baseline focal plane alignment (prop 4728) must be completed prior to execution. THESE DATA MUST BE OBTAINED PRIOR TO COSTAR DEPLOYMENT BUT AFTER HST SERVICING. THESE DATA MUST ALSO BE OBTAINED AT THE NOMINAL PRE-SM SECONDARY MIRROR SETTING. Exposure times are based on observed count rates. The goal is to obtain between 1000 - 10000 cts/diode in each substep bin. High S/N is required to identify small changes in sensitivity. Bright stars are used to keep the total test time as short as possible.
