Description of proposed observations. This augmentation program will investigate time variations in the wind of one O6f star, lambda Cep. It seeks to detect and identify the important physical processes involved in the initiation of a wind and in the accelerated flow. In particular, it seeks to determine whether there is observational evidence between processes operating in the photosphere (e.g. non-radial pulsations, micro- turbulence, etc.) and the properties of the wind, including the possible presence of low-velocity DAC's. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. The ST/GHRS is necessary to obtain profiles of wind lines at high S/N and high time resolution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. The monitoring of HD 210839 should be scheduled at a time when the star is at its closest to the continuous viewing zone (CVZ). Also, for simultaneous ground- based and IUE observations, the Sep. - Oct. 1992 is best. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13.
