Abstract Version 7.3 will implement a three logical memory unit contingency plan. It removes under utilized DF-224 code to recover memory margins and restructures code. The installation of DF-224, version 7.3 will be broken into a Installation, Regression test, and Contingency Back-out time. In addition, it eliminates the 10 and 300 second processing rate. It is highly desirable to implement the version of the flight software ASAP. Due to the complexity of the installation, dedicated spacecraft time is required to minimize spacecraft risk In summary, this proposal requests 14 orbits of dedicated spacecraft time for installation, regression test, and contingency back_out time for DF-224 FS V7.3 to be scheduled in the first few days of SMS 054. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. Scientific Justification. The time allocated will provide the specific vehicle configuration and dedicated spacecraft time for in- stallation and regressin testing of ver. 7.3 FS mod. The new flight code once installed and validated via on-orbit regression test, will provide the capability to operate the FS code within 3 Logical Memory Units (LMU). The specific HST configuration for installation of this flight code is needed to configure the vehicle reduce the CPU processing during installation, perform regression test and provide contingency time removal of the code in the event anomalies are detected. The described sequence of events should occur in the first few days of the SMS prior to Wednesday of the SMS period and must occur in the specified order. 1. Installation Install flight code changes and reallocate memory, install new A&P telemetry formats; trans ground elements to Project Database Ver. 28.A; perform a memory dump; load Acq. logic (realloction of Sequence Pointer). VEHICLE CONFIGURATION: The HST innormal mode using the gyros for attitude reference. The vehicle attitude is to be V1:RA= 157.0, DEC=10.0, ROLL= -172.91 (-V1 sunpoint, 180 deg roll). 4 Kbps programmable "AN" format should be active with the engineering recorder activities performed by generic sched- uling by PASS. During this period Operations will be switching from 4 Kbps "AN" format to "FN" format while the telemetry mux tables are loaded. The following FSW processing MUST be disabled or inactive prior to installation 1.) FGS acq. ATTITUDE update, Command packets #33-47 DISABLED 2.) Conditional Processor DISABLED 3.) FHST processing be INACTIVE, Command packets #31,32 Additinal SSAF COMCON request should be included in the SMS of 15-20 minutes duration each for a total of 2 per orbit. A full DF-224 memory dump will follow installation. All engineering data will be recovered either in RT or via the Engineering Tape Recorder (ETR). TIME REQUIREMENT: 6 orbits dedicated. REGRESSION TEST: The regression test activities are defined to be the minimum activities which are pertinent to vehicle health and safety or continued normal vehicle opertions. The majority of the regression test items are autonomously performed by the DF-224 FS as a result of vehicle config- uration. The activites have been defined and success/fail criteria established. Specific activities that are to be scheduled by the StSCI SMS are a large vehicle slew to the specified attitude with attendent Solar Array slew. Following this slew is a unspecified Course Track Acq. (A format), Re- acq. (A format), and a Fine Lock Acq. (P format). Verifica- tion has been perormed and available Guide Stars for the acq. are available. (See attachment B). VEHICLE CONFIG: V1:RA=90.0, DEC=-67.0, ROLL=0.00 (SEP,+V3 sunpoint). 4Kbps programmable "AN" format should be active w/ ETR activities performed by generic scheduling by PASS. During this period Operations will be switching to 4Kbps "AN" format and "PN" format to verify the telemetry mux tables are valid. The FSW processing previosly disabled will be enabled via real-time activation of the SSPC as part of the installation procedure. TIME REQUIRED: 3 orbits dedicated CONTINGENCY REMOVAL: The contingency removal time is the time required to remove the DF-224 code modifications, telemetry formats and fall back to the version 27.B of the Project Database and associated ground elements. The vehicle configuration will be managed by Operations in the event removal of the code is necessary. Additinal SSAF COMCON request should be included in the SMS of 15-20 minutes duration each for a total of 2 per orbit. A full DF-224 memory dump will follow installation. All engineering data will be recovered either in RT or via the Engineering Tape Recorder (ETR). TIME REQUIREMNET: 4 orbits dedicated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Due to the complexity of this DF-224 installation, dedicated spacecraft time is needed to reduce the CPU processing and prevent unknown anomalous FSW operation, possibly causing entry into safemode. Previously, serendipitous installations of FSW codehave proved to be difficult when specific vehicle configurations are desired. Project Office, code 440 has therefore directed that all future FSW installations requiring specific vehicle configurations be submitted through the proposal system.
