Abstract This proposal outlines the test procedure for the PRISM mode aperture h,v and V2,V3 position determination. Uncertainties in PRISM aperture locations due to deflection by the beamsplitters in the prism assemblies requires that each of the PRISM apertures be calibrated separately. The process of splitting the incoming beam from the HST to the two beamsplitter apertures causes a slight deviation in the second aperture. This deviation is unknown at present and cannot be calibrated using data from previous mission support calibration tests. Due to the light loss at the edges of the HSP apertures from spherical aberration. This misalignment causes a different photometric error through the two apertures from target acquisition errors or spacecraft jitter. To minimize this effect, both the detector locations of the apertures as well as the spacecraft locations of the apertures will be measure directly. A stellar source will be used in each of the 6 PRISM apertures to determine their h,v positions. Nineteen days later the stellar source will be scanned across the apertures in two orientations to provide V2,V3 calibration of the apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. Description of proposed observations. This test calibrates h,v and V2,V3 for the PRISM apertures. After HST is commanded to place the target in the finding aperture, an onboard target acquisition is performed. After this acquisition a high resolution image of the finding aperture will be taken. The acquisition program will then command a small angle maneuver to place the target in the entrance aperture of the prism assembly. A high-resolution image of both PRISM apertures is performed at each of 9 pointing in a step-and-dwell manuever to check the placement of the target and find the aperture edges in h,v. The PRISM apertures to be tested are: 1. UV1: F248M/F135W 2. UV2: F262M/F145M 3. VIS: F551W/F240W Nineteen days later, for all of the listed prism apertures a star will be scanned across the apertures in a 21 line continuous scan of 5" on a side, while a PRISM data collection is done centered on the selected detector. This provides the V2,V3 location of the center of the apertures, and allows selection of a pointing which allows the least sensitivity to miscentering and jitter in both apertures. The proposed test will require approximately TBD minutes. Pointing Stability: Coarse track is understood to provide better than 19 milliarcsec stability. That is satisfactory for all observations in the 10" and 1.0" IDT apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction and analysis consist of examining the images of each aperture position to determine the h,v locations of the aperture, and make a rough estimate of the best pointing for each aperture. The PRISM mode data collection will be used for a fine determination of the best pointing for centering and jitter insensitivity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
