Description of proposed observations. GHRS exposures of S Condensation Onboard Acq of Eta Car core with A2 using return to brightest point search images of Eta Car and S Cond after offset LSA G270M 2800 step-patt=2 2 samples per diode width comb=four (def), fp-split=std (4) 12 subexposures, 5.33 minutes each ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Justification of need for HST observations. Spatial resolution needed to study inner core and small scale structures in Homunculus, and to measure displacements and proper motions of outwardly moving ejecta. UV capability needed to access important spectroscopic lines of Mg II. Spatial resolution needed also to record spectra of ejecta without contamination from central object and nearby nebulosity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The HRS spectra will be processed with standard techniques using either RSDP or IDT facilities. Emission lines will be analyzed with respect to fluxes, line profiles, and radial velocities. Corrections for extinction will be applied where appropriate. The various ionization stages of nitrogen will be studied to estimate the abundance. Presently undetected lines of Carbon and Oxygen will be searched for, and fluxes, or at least upper limits, will be determined. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. Description of previous HST work. An early set of WFC and PC images were obtained in cycle 0 as part of GTO proposal 1186. Our preliminary analyses were described in the proceedings of the STScI wrkshop on mass loss, and in a poster paper at the Atlanta AAS meeting in January, 1992. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
