Abstract This proposal outlines the test procedure for the POL detector aperture mapping and V2,V3 relative aperture position determination. Uncertainties in POL aperture locations not found in the other HSP aperture plates requires that each POL aperture be calibrated separately. Description of proposed observations. This test calibrates h,v and V2,V3 for the POL detector. After HST is commanded to place the target in the finding aperture, an onboard target acquisition is performed. After this acquisition a high resolution image of the finding aperture will be taken. After this, the acquisition program will then command a small angle maneuver to place the target in each of the 16 small photometry apertures. A high-resolution image is then performed to check the placement of the target and find the aperture edges. The apertures to be tested for the POL tube are: 1. POL0-F327M, F277M, F237M, F216M 2. POL90-F327M, F277M, F237M, F216M 3. POL45-F327M, F277M, F237M, F216M 4. POL135-F327M, F277M, F237M, F216M 19 days later, for all of the listed apertures a star will be scanned across the apertures in a 21 line continuous scan of 5" on a side, while a SCP data collection is done centered on the aperture. This provides the V2,V3 location of the center of the apertures. Revision History: 31 May 91: Test created-- nelson, jwp, williams 06 Jun 91: put in proper integration time in scan-hole, fixed after line to be 18D. Description of special scheduling requirements. The proposed test will require approximately TBD minutes. The scanning portion of the test should be done with the same object and guide stars for all apertures. Pointing Stability: Coarse track is understood to have less than 19 milliarcsec stability. That is satisfactory for all observations in the 10" and 1.0" IDT apertures. HSP requires fine lock for all observations in the 0.4" apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction and analysis consist of examining the POL images of each aperture position to check the accuracy of the VFTAV centering algorithm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
