Abstract This test is a combination coarse and fine alignment activity. It will pin down the aperture locations and aperture plate rotations even in the presence of a fairly large uncertainty in the initial knowledge of these variables. It uses spacecraft motions to absorb the coarse uncertainty in aperture positions, and uses a low scan rate and high speed photometry to extract fine alignment information. Small science apertures (as opposed to the finding aperture) are used to nail down plate offsets and rotations. This procedure will measure the V2,V3 offsets and rotation of the HSP aperture plates in the HST focal plane. This is a failsafe blend of 1503 and 1504. This test is needed to provide focal plane calibrations for the HSP in the presence of initially large uncertainties. There are essentially no prerequisites for this test. The test in designed to succeed given the uncertainties in the pre-launch focal plane analysis. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Standard star: NGC188-998 (VID998), V=9.58 For each IDT do the following: 1a) Image the UV finding aps with the bright earth. 1b) Image the VIS finding aps with the Orion nebular field. This ties things down in deflection space. 2) Acquire the program star in the finding aperture. Mode I, of course. 3) Take an image to verify the acquisition. This will verify the OSS centering algorithm. 4) For three small holes: Execute a rectangular continuous scan while doing an SCP. The continuous scan should be large enough to snag the hole, and fine enough to bag the edges. This will satisfy both coarse and fine alignment requirements, and will also nail down the offset and rotation of the aperture plate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. The Mode-I acquisition is needed to correct for the blind pointing uncertainty. Each detector is tested separately and independently. Each detector can be scheduled at any time. Please use guide stars from the ZZZZ catalog. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7.
