Abstract Measurements of the image drift due to the geomagnetic field will be made on both FOS detectors. Maps of the aperture image, with TALED illumination at approximately 3 minute intervals will be used to determine the amount of motion in both X and Y directions. Spectra obtained with the onboard calibration lamps in RAPID readout mode will permit determination of the uniformity of the image drift across the diode array and an accurate sensitivity and phase measurement. The latter data will also be used to determine how well the effect can be corrected and if second order effects (hysteresis, local field distortion due to permeable materials in the vicinity of the Digicons, influence of the S/C magnetic torquers) are substantial. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. Description of proposed observations. Aperture maps, with TALED illumination, will be obtained over a full orbit, at four different S/C pointings, at approximately 3 minute intervals, to determine amout of image drift due to the geomagnietic field in both X and Y Digicon coordinate. A similar set of internal cal lamp spectra, obtained at higher time resolution, will permit a more accurate characterization of the effect, over the full length of the diode array. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. All observations are internal and may be obtained under gyro control. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. This test is not stray light sensitive. All observations are internal cal lamp and TALED measurements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed at UCSD, and the analysis will be performed using FOS IDT computer facilities. This program will determine the parameters required to compute corrections in both the X and Y coordinates for the geomagnetically induced image drift. These corrections are required to properly reduce OV tests 2188, 2098, 2099, and 1441, SV tests 1309, 1528, 1429, and 1430, and subsequent science data, with software tools which the FOS IDT is currently developing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
