FGS CHARACTERIZATION HDOS needs to assess the FGS transfer function at various positions within the three FGSs. For a given secondary mirror position, this test includes transfer scans at 5 positions within each FGS. Data from this test will provide important insight to the question concerning the FGSs' ability to acquire and track stars for both spacecraft guidance and astrometry science. This test will determine the characteristics of the s-curves as a function of the location in the focal plane and the position of the secondary mirror. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. O) Move secondary mirror to test position. A) Acquire brightest available Guide Stars in FGS 1 and 2 in Fine Lock if magnitude is < 13 otherwise use Coarse Track 1) Perform 5 transfer scans in FGS3 with the clear aperture at one of the central positions. 2) Repeat 1 with the 2/3 aperture. 3) Repeat 1 and 2 for FOUR other central positions, for a total of 5 positions and 50 scans. B) Repeat A with FGS2 as astrometer. C) Repeat A with FGS1 as astrometer. D) Obtain FOC image E) Return Secondary Mirror to starting position of test. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. The bright target star is required to provide high signal to noise in the transfer scan data. The brightest available guide stars are desired to provide minimun jitter when data are analyzed. 32 Kbit data are required. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed in the PASS, and data analysis will be carried out with the use of algorithms and software developed by HUGHES DOS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
