This proposal outlines the test procedure for verifying HSP Mode II target acquisition (on-board) capability for each of the four IDTs on the HSP. Using a stellar source in the CVZ, each IDT will have the target placed in its finding aperture where a small area scan is taken to confirm the location of the star; additional pointing commands will then position the source in a selected aperture. Description of proposed observations. This test checks Mode II target acquisition for tube POL. After HST is commanded to place the target in the finding aperture, a 20 x 20 acquisition area scan is performed. The HSP flight software will determine the target centroid, and center the target in the finding aperture. Repeated acquisitions will test the centering accuracy of the algorithm. After the iteration test, the acquisition program will command a small angle maneuver to place the target in one of five small photometry apertures. A high-resolution image is then performed to check the placement of the target. The apertures to be tested for the POL tube are: 1. POL0-F327M 2. POL90-F216M 3. POL45-F277M 4. Description of special scheduling requirements. The proposed test will require approximately TBD minutes to complete per IDT. For each new offset in the POL finding aperture, all the iterated acquisitions or images should be performed without interruption. Breaks can occur between sets of iterations, or after images, whenever a new offset is requested. The OV HSP MSC tests Phases I - III are prerequisites for this test. Pointing Stability: Coarse track is understood to have less than 19 milliarcsec stability. That is satisfactory for all observations in the 10" and 1.0" IDT apertures. HSP requires fine lock for all observations in the 0.4" apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction and analysis consist of examining the POL images of each aperture position to check the accuracy of the VFTAV centering algorithm. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
