TARGETS: Type:(1)Bright, early-type HRS photometric standard (2)Bright, late- type star with spatially resolved circumstellar shell. Candidates: (1) mu Col (=HD 38666) (2) alpha Ori (=HD 39801)...highly preferred. Alternates: (2b) alpha Boo (=HD 124897) For mu Col: Collect spectral data with star centered in Large Science Aperture (LSA), and at 4 positions successfully offset farther from x- edge (and outside) of the aperture and then at 5 similar positions along the y- axis. Repeat using the Small Science Aperture (SSA). Perform at three widely- spaced wavelengths using low and intermediate resolution first-order gratings. For alpha Ori: Collect spectral data at one wavelength, intermediate resolution with star centered in the SSA and at three positions successively farther from the edge (and outside) of SSA. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. S/L sensitive? Yes. Assume allowable background 21 mv/arcsec2. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. Spectra will be reduced and analyzed with software developed by the HRS-IDT.
