Abstract This proposal defines the procedure for verifying that instrumental magnitudes and colors, derived from observations of selected stellar photometric standards using the three (3) photometric IDTs (UV1, VIS, and UV2) on the HSP, can be transformed to existing standard photometric systems. The test determines the combined ST-HSP (detector-filter-aperture) spectral response for a number of selected filter- aperture combinations for each IDT. In addition, the HSP prism operating mode is verified and a comparison of data taken in this mode is made with observations in the single aperture mode to derive the prism transmission losses and color terms. Description of proposed observations. The proposed observations will begin with the UV1 IDT (IDT#2) configured in the digital, single aperture mode. After acquiring the first photometric standard star in the 10 arcsec finding aperture, the star will be positioned in the first aperture to be tested. The apertures to be used (and the order to use them) for the IDTs are: a) UV1: F248M,F184W,F135W,F152M,F278N,F218M,F145M,F220W,PRISM b) VIS: F620W,F551W,F450W,F184W,F240W,F355M,F419N,F262M,F400LP,PRISM In addition, a single PMT/VIS exposure in split mode is to be taken. c) UV2: F145M,F278N,F152M,F248M,F184W,F284M,F160LP,F179M,PRISM At each aperture position, a total of 100 one (1) second integrations are to be obtained, except for the last aperture. Upon moving to the last aperture, the IDT is reconfigured to the prism mode and a total of 200 one (1) second integrations are obtained. The above sequence is then repeated for the other two photometric IDTs (VIS and UV2); the next photometric standard star is then acquired for UV1 and the entire observing sequence repeated for a total of three stars. The VIS IDT (#3) is to be used with the above filters and sequence for a total of two standard stars, which are too yellow to be observed on either UV1 or UV2. The entire test is to be completed in a one (1) week interval. For all onboard acq. use 20x20 steps, 0.5 arcsec steps, varying integrations, brightest object. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Once a photometric standard star is acquired, the entire observing sequence should be completed for UV1, VIS, and UV2. PREREQUISITES: Schedule this proposal seven days or more after the successful completion of proposal 1381, HSP target acquisition test HSP-02. Schedule this proposal before HSP color transformation partb, HSP-05b. POINTING STABILITY: Coarse track is understood to have less than 19 marcsec stability. That is satisfactory for all observations in the 10" and 1.0" UV1, UV2, and VIS IDT apertures, the PMT, and the 6.0". (finding) POL IDT aperture. HSP requires fine lock for all observations in the 0.65" POL IDT apertures and in all the 0.4" apertures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. No special calibrations, dark time, or uninterrupted exposures are requested (see item 5 though). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction will consist of deriving the corrected mean count rates from each of the selected apertures for each of the IDTs and calculating the instrumental magnitudes and colors (e.g. (b-v), (v-r) ). The transformation coefficients will be derived which permit the instrumental magnitudes and colors to be placed on the appropriate standard photometric system in the data analysis process. These coefficients will be supplied to the Calibration Data Base (CDB). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
