Scientific Justification. HRS SV Objectives: Obtain routine calibration data for: 1. Carrousel calibration function coefficients. 2. Wavelength calibration dispersion constants. 3. Y deflection function coefficients. 4. Spectral resolving power, instrument profile. 5. Scattered light. 6. Grating to grating sensitivity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Observations made for each Echelle, at 5 carousel positions and 5 different orders per configuration: Echelle A: mLAMBDA = 55246,55690,56142,56591,57046 and orders m = 34,37,40,43,and 46. Echelle B: mLAMBDA = 54668,55418,56169,56915,57662 and orders m = 18,21,24,27,and 30. At each position lamp SC2 will be observed for a total of 50 observations. Each will use substep pattern 7, for 4 samples per diode. Two point COMB addition will be used. A new spectrum Y balance offset will be calculated and applied for each observation. Some of the wavelengths specified in this proposal are intentionally beyond the nominal range of the orders indicated. This is ok. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. First execution early in SV. Repeat approximately every 6 weeks for 4 times total. Echelle A and B parts are separate tests, and do not need to be run in order or together. Prerequisites: 1. A Standard High Voltage Turn On must have been completed. 2. OV tests 1368 and 1369 must have been run and analyzed. Data reduction and analysis plans. 1. Coefficients for the carrousel function and Y deflection function are determined and entered into the PDB. 2. Wavelength calibration dispersion constants are entered into the PODPS calibration data base. 3.
