The goals of this test are: (1) to determine the coordinates of the LSA and SSA in V2/V3 coordinates with an accuracy of 0.02 arcsec, (2) to locate the SSA in V2/V3 coordinates, and (3) to refine the measurement of the plate scale and aperture orientation. Scientific Justification. HRS SV Objectives: 1. Determine the coordinates of the LSA in V2/V3 coordinates with an accuracy of 0.02 arcsec. 2. Determine the coordinates of the SSA in V2/V3 coordinates with an accuracy of 0.02 arcsec. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. There are five parts to this test. In the first part the probe star is acquired and centered in the LSA using a Mode I target acquisition. The second part is an IMAGE mode map with the star centered in the LSA, followed by a WFC boresight image to calibrate the WFC/GHRS relative positions. In the third part, the star is scanned across one edge of the aperture in a series of fine step and dwell maneuvers executed by DF-244. A direct downlink HRS observation is started to continuously monitor the flux through the aperture with accurate time resolution. The flux will be correlated with the V2/V3 position of the image during data reduction. The HRS must be instructed to continue to take scientific data while the telescope is moving. The direct downlink observation must be terminated by setting HRS event flag 2. This procedure will be repeated for all four edges of the LSA. The fourth part of the test locates the SSA. A pair of step and dwell maneuvers will move the probe star over a set of closely spaced points centered on the expected position of the aperture. A direct downlink observations will be in progress monitoring the flux as a function of time. In the fifth part the probe star will be returned to the nominal center of the LSA and a single field map will be obtained. These observations need only be made with one acquisiiton mirror and detector. This test requires maximum HRS positional accuracy. Therefore a 1 hour warm up on detector 2 is required before starting the test. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Real time contact is required for Mode I target acquisition. This test should be repeated every 60 days +/- 15 days as a minimum during SV for 2 times. Prerequisites: 1. Proposal 1396 HRS/FGS Coarse Alignment 2. Proposal 1397 HRS/FGS Fine Alignment in OV. SV Minimum Plan: 2 executions SV Delta Plan: 3 additional executions Guiding Tolerance: 0.010 arc seconds This test should be run with Fine Track Lock. If guide stars are not available to support Fine Track, then Coarse Track may be used. Guide stars for this proposal must be chosen from the following list.
