In doing so, we line_2: plan to increase the overall efficiency of HST, mainly by taking deep line_3: multicolor images with the WF/PC in parallel mode, but also by including line_4: UV images with the FOC when the WF/PC is line_5: primary. In addition to the great potential for serendipitous discoveries, the line_6: parallel data are needed to undertake a number of scientifically important line_7: programs, both in Galactic and extra-galactic astronomy. In particular, we line_8: will concentrate on areas ranging from the evolution of galaxies to Galactic line_9: structure, and on serendipitous searches for objects from the solar system to line_12: goal of measuring variability and proper motions, and to optimize the limiting line_13: magnitudes and color baselines for fields of particular interest. Our access line_14: to large ground-based telescopes is a major strength of the team that will line_15: ensure that the HST survey is optimized and followed up in a timely and line_16: coordinated way, using HST only for its unique properties of UV sensitivity, line_17: high resolution and low background. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: GILMORE fname: GERARD title: DR. mi: F. inst: CAMBRIDGE, UNIVERSITY OF country: UK esa: Y ! lname: LILLY fname: SIMON title: DR. mi: J. inst: TORONTO, UNIVERSITY OF country: CANADA ! lname: RATNATUNGA fname: KAVAN title: DR. inst: GSFC country: USA ! lname: SHANKS fname: TOM title: DR. inst: DURHAM UNIVERSITY country: UK esa: Y ! lname: WEEDMAN fname: DANIEL title: DR. mi: W. inst: PENN STATE UNIVERSITY country: USA ! lname: WINDHORST fname: ROGIER title: DR. mi: A. inst: ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY country: USA ! lname: GREEN fname: RICHARD title: DR. mi: F. inst: KPNO, NOAO country: USA ! lname: ILLINGWORTH fname: GARTH title: DR. mi: D. inst: CALIFORNIA, UNIVERSITY OF, SANTA CRUZ country: USA ! lname: TYSON fname: J. title: DR. mi: A. inst: AT&T BELL LABS country: USA ! lname: KOO fname: DAVID title: DR. mi: C. inst: CALIFORNIA, UNIVERSITY OF, SANTA CRUZ country: USA ! lname: SCHMIDT fname: MAARTEN inst: CALTECH country: USA ! lname: HUCHRA fname: JOHN title: DR. mi: P. inst: CFA country: USA ! lname: DOXSEY fname: RODGER title: DR. mi: E. inst: STSCI country: USA ! lname: ELLIS fname: RICHARD mi: S. inst: DURHAM UNIVERSITY country: UK esa: Y ! ! end of general_form_proposers block general_form_text: question: 3 section: 1 line_1: 23 lines max ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: GRIFFITHS fname: RICHARD mi: E. title: DR. category: PI inst: SPACE TELESCOPE SCIENCE INSTITUTE addr_1: 3700 SAN MARTIN DRIVE city: BALTIMORE state: MD zip: 21218 country: USA ! ! end of general_form_address records !
