The immediate line_6: plan is to obtain color-magnitude diagrams and luminosity functions for 3 line_7: representative clusters in the far halo; these line_8: will allow us to measure relative ages to +/- 1 Gyr and determine their line_9: main-sequence mass functions. line_11: The ultimate goal is to use globular clusters as line_12: cosmological probes: to determine the starting epoch and duration of Galactic line_13: halo formation, the mass spectrum of star formation and its dependence upon line_14: primordial conditions, and the dynamical line_15: evolution of gravitational N-body systems. line_18: Major support programs include theoretical modeling of the structure and line_19: evolution of stars and star clusters, and the development of photometric line_20: algorithms optimized for HST data. ! ! end of abstract general_form_proposers: lname: HESSER fname: JAMES title: P.I. mi: E. inst: DOMINION ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY country: CANADA ! lname: BELL fname: ROGER mi: A. inst: MARYLAND, UNIVERSITY OF country: USA ! lname: BOND fname: HOWARD mi: E. inst: STSCI country: USA ! lname: FAHLMAN fname: GREGORY mi: G. inst: BRITISH COLUMBIA, UNIVERSITY OF country: CANADA ! lname: FONTAINE fname: GILLES inst: MONTREAL, UNIVERSITY OF country: CANADA ! lname: HARRIS fname: WILLIAM mi: E. inst: MCMASTER UNIVERSITY country: CANADA ! lname: HARTWICK fname: F. The roll angle line_13: for the first exposure on each cluster is arbitrary, but all line_14: subsequent exposures should be taken at the same roll. CLOCKS=YES is requested for the long line_19: exposures. The long exposures should be taken after the short line_20: exposures, to minimize residual images. line_21: The long exposures should reach approximately S/N = 15 at V = 27.4. ! question: 4 section: 1 line_1: (See original proposal) ! question: 5 section: 1 line_1: (See original proposal) ! question: 6 section: 1 line_1: All exposures should be taken at the same roll angle (or roll line_2: angles differing by +/- 90 or 180 degrees), so that we will not line_3: lose stars from the corners of the field when combining data line_4: from the multiple exposures. ! question: 7 section: 1 line_1: (See original proposal) ! question: 8 section: 1 line_1: We request the standard one-year proprietary rights, calculated line_2: from the date of the last exposure on each field. ! question: 9 section: 1 line_1: N/A ! question: 10 section: 1 line_1: (See original proposal) ! !end of general form text general_form_address: lname: HESSER fname: JAMES mi: E. title: DR. category: PI inst: DOMINION ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY addr_1: 5071 W.
