GENERAL FORM Proposal 2148c PI: W. L. Brady Proposal Title: BOOTSTRAP PHASE B/WAVE FRONT MEASUREMENT AND ADJUSTMENT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Proposers: Proposers Institution Country ESA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ R. Brown PERKIN-ELMER USA T. Facey PERKIN-ELMER USA W. L. Brady PERKIN-ELMER USA D. Winchell PERKIN-ELMER USA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Scientific Justification. The proposal will provide the data for, and make the adjustments to, the OTA secondary mirror to reduce the optical wave front error to approximately 1/20 of a wave. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. All the activities except the calibration mode require a star of magnitude 2 or brighter to be available at the appropriate WFS field of view. During the wave front measurements, Format FN is required for the 40 Hertz FGS data which is used to compensate the optical path length maps for jitter. The data taken will be processed to produce optical path difference maps and optical aberrtion coefficients. These provide the command data necessary to correct pointing errors and reduce optical aberrations. Real-time command will be required to set up the OCE parameters, to provide corrected pointing, and to move the secondary mirror actuators. Real-time telemetry will be required to allow the timely processing of the data. The process should be performed as rapidly as possible to minimize the effects of the graphite-epoxy desorption. The names of the pstol procs used in this test are listed, with the corresponding logsheet define lines also being indicated. "pactuator" - planning command group used wiht r/t uplink for actadj, line 13. "ocscalib" - line 17,18,19. "ocsmode2" - line 4,5,6. "ocsnorm" - line 1,2,3; line 7,8,9; line 10,11,12; line 14,15,16. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Real-time telemetry for analysis and real-time commanding for OCE configuration, SM actuator commands, and real-time offset maneuvers. Format FN required for data takes. This activity must be performed outside the SAA. This activity must be performed after bootstrap PhaseA, (PEP ID 1534). This alignment must be accomplished before Mini-OFAD (PEP ID 1544) and interim FGS/FGS/FGS alignment (AD OTA F029) or before any further use of the optics is initiated. The adjustment of OCE parameteres will be done simultaneously with each interactive acquisition. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The wave front sensor software resident in PASS will process the data for each wave front sensor observation. The results of this processing for all three wave front sensors will be processed by the actuator control software resident in PASS to evaluate the image quality and to generate the corresponding actuator command directives. Thee actuator command directives will be displayed for operator verification or alteration. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Additional comments or special requests. The Astrometry Team will supply target stars and candidate guide stars. The guide stars must be selected from this candidate list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11. Address Information Page 3 Name: W. L.
