In this test, we will obtain data on the dark backgrounds. Dark measurements will be obtained using both detectors. Data will be obtained with a variety of SIs prime, to test for an EMI problems. The observations will be repeated as often as possible. Although the DARK measurements will be used to determine the average level of dark counts to subtract from the science data, the primary purpose of the OV DARKs is to determine which FOS channels should be disabled. It is clear that all channels which exceed spec continually or intermittently should be turned off. Even though we have much information from ground-based tests, those data, taken at room temperature, may have listed as good channels some which will be bad at operating temperatures. There may also be channels which are noisy on the ground that will be good under operating conditions. The channels could improve either because the temperature is lower or because the (intermittent) noise was due to interference from something in the enviornment which will not be present on orbit. For this reason, all channels should be enabled for these DARK observations. Because of the intermittent nature of the noise in the channels (some bad channels showed up in only one or two of 10-20 darks), it is imperative to have as many DARKs as possible in OV. The parameters specified for the DARK exposures should result in the following values for FOS parameters: livetime = 0.500 deadtime = 0.010 ints = 40 patterns = 1 The photocathode will be sampled at half-diode-height intervals over the YBASE range from -1472 to +1472, which encompasses all normal science image locations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. All observations are parallel. Schedule this proposal at leat 4D after 2188, FOS -OV 062/072, Fine Y-base measurements. If any observations are scheduled earlier than 4D after prop 2748 - SAA Dark Measurements, then the observations MUST occur in non-SAA impacted orbits. If the observatins are scheduled after 2748, there are no restrictions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Description of special calibration exposures. This test is not stray light sensitive. 8 hours of observation is internal dark measurements. Data reduction will be performed at the ST ScI, and the analysis will be performed using FOS IDT computer facilities.
