Lupie, R. Bohlin, and A. Holm. Another goal is obtaining the first spectra of an external object for each FOS detector system. This program has the highest priority. Phases I to III must be completed before attempting observations of any other stellar targets. Description of proposed observations. Phase IIIb of Aperture Locations will provide a fine measure of the FOS aperture locations in V2V3 by rastering a star on a fine grid to find the maximum throughput for small apertures. This technique provides the most precise V2V3 locations and may provide the most precise locations of the larger apertures from the relative position of Phase I. A refined plate scale and orientation can be derived from the V2V3 separation of the upper and lower 0.1 arcsec apertures. The line for the 0.1 arcsec apertures is 0.1 arcsec with 0.02 arcsec steps, while for the 0.25 arcsec aperture a 0.24 arcsec line and 0.04 arcsec steps are used. Each detector side should begin and end with a TALED aperture map to determine the current detector coordinates of the apertures used. A WF/PC image of the stellar field should be obtained with the FOS observations of the star in order to determine relative FOS/WFPC locations. For the IMAGE sequence, use the initial y- base determined for the 4.3" aperture (with Y=(Y(nominal)-192) for all apertures. Note that the values of Y on lines 8, 293, 378.6, and 846 are based on ground- determined y-bases. The values will need to be updated based on in-orbit y-bases measured from data in proposal 2188, which is performed 18 days prior to the program. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Mode I real-time data will be used to monitor the start of the stellar observations. OV Prerequisites: Schedule at least 4D after 1443, FOS-OV 100/101, Aperture Location Phase IIIa. Schedule at least 4D after 1441, FOS/OV 080/081, Aperture Location Phase I. Schedule at least 4D after 2748, SAA Dark Measurements. Perfrom spatial scans in digicon (X,Y) coordinates. Start all spatial scans in the center of the aperture. Do not offset pointing to center the scan on the aperture. Pointing stability of 10% of the smallest aperture (0.1") used - 0.01" - is required for the FOS data. Stability of 0.5 pixel size - 0.05" - is required for the WFC data. Data reduction and analysis plans. Data reduction will be performed at the ST ScI, using FOS IDT computer hardware. The results of this aperture location calibration are relevant to the project data base, so that the priority is very high.
