This activity is a required step in the determination of the alignment and calibration parameters necessary for the proper processing of attitude sensor data in the onboard Pointing Control System and in the ground PASS software. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Description of proposed observations. Each of the 90 degree slew maneuvers required in performing this calibration will cause the generation of an autonomous delayed FHST 3-axis attitude update. In the following description, positive roll, pitch, and yaw are defined as positive rotations (right-hand coordinate system) around the +v1, +v2, and +v3 axes, respectively. Data from at least two simultaneously unocculted FHSTs will be taken for at least five minutes immediately before and after each maneuver. RGA data is required from the start of the FHST data taken preceding a maneuver, during the maneuver, and through the data take following a maneuver. The RGA data takes during any of the 90D maneuvers specified do not have to be interrupted because of occultations or SAA passages. However, the FHST data takes that follow the maneuver should be initiated immediately upon completion of any of these maneuvers, and the maneuvers should commence immediately upon completion of the FHST data takes that precede the maneuver. Real-time downlinks are preferred for all data takes; however, data takes must be backed up to the ETR. The maneuvers descirbed in this proposal are in two groups. After the first group of maneuvers is performed, the PASS shall require seven hours to process the data. The FHST/RGA scale-factor-alignment matrices are then uplinked. A second group of maneuvers is then performed. The results of the processing of the data obtained from the second group of maneuvers will be available on the PASS data bases twelve hours after the receipt of the data associated with all the maneuvers in the second group. The maneuvers in each group are described in the following paragraphs. No preferred sequence of performing the maneuvers within either group is required. The maneuvers within the first group are described as follows. (1) The HST is maneuvered to point the -v1 axis to the sun and the +v3 axis at the North Ecliptic Pole. The HST is then pitched -90D. (2) The HST is maneuvered to point the +v1 axis to the North Ecliptic Pole and the +v3 axis at the sun. The HST is then yawed +90D. (3) The HST is maneuvered to point the +v1 axis to a point on the ecliptic plane which is 90D east of the anti-sun and with the +v3 axis at the sun. The HST is then pitched +90D. (4) The HST will be maneuvered to point the -V1 axis toward the sun, and the +v3 axis in the ecliptic plane east of the anti-sun. The HST is then rolled +180D. The maneuvers within the second group are described as follows. (1) The HST is maneuvered to point the -V1 axis to the sun and the +V3 axis in the ecliptic plan west of the anti-sun. The HST is then rolled -90D. (2) The HST is maneuvered to point the -V1 axis to the sun and the +V3 axis at the North Ecliptic Pole. The HST is then pitched -90D. (3) The HST is pointed to the NEP and the +V3 axis at the sun. The HST is then yawed - 90D. (4) The HST is pointed to a point 90D west of the sun and the +V3 axis at the sun. N/A ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Description of special scheduling requirements. Real-time downlinks are preferred for all data takes; however, all data takes must be backed up to the ETR. The telemetry format must be the PN (32 kbps) format starting and ending with the FHST data takes associated with each maneuver, as well as during the maneuvers. At other times the telemtry format sould be AN (4 kbps) format. At least two FHSTs must be simultaneously unocculted immediately prior to, and after each maneuver. This proposal specifically requests an ETR dump following each maneuver group. The proposers anticipate that more frequent ETR dumps will be performed within each group according to the ETR dump policy developed for orbital verification. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7. Data reduction and analysis plans. The data reduction will be performed in the PASS system. The initial FHST/RGA scale-factor-alignment matrices are expected to be available on the PASS data bases about 7 hours after the receipt of the data associated with all the maneuvers in the first group. The corresponding results for the second sequence should be available on the PASS data bases about 12 hours after the receipt of the data associated wiht all the maneuvers in the second group. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8.
